Tin soldiers and Nixon's coming, We're finally on our own. This summer I hear the drumming, Four dead in Ohio.
Gotta get down to it Soldiers are gunning us down Should have been done long ago. What if you knew her And found her dead on the ground How can you run when you know?
La la la la la la la la La la la la la la la La la la la la la la la La la la la la la la.

“Ohio” is a song written by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young in the aftermath of the shooting and killing of students protesting the Vietnam War at Ohio State University. In 1970 Richard Nixon who was the President at the time ordered the Soldiers to break-up the protesting. In 1970, the Viet Nam War had escalated and many soldiers were being killed. The language of this song explains what happened and explains the outrage and protest over both the war and that our own government would kill people for protesting. The lyrics “this summer I heard the drumming, four dead in Ohio” and “soldiers are gunning us down” explains how students were killed and the lyrics “tin soldiers and Nixon’s coming” explains how Nixon supported the war. The phrase “we’re finally on our own” may show how the United States government did not support the rights of the students to protest. This song is anti-war and does not support the foreign policy of the Truman Doctrine for waging war against Communism. The students did not want there to be a war in another country just against Communism, so they did not support the Truman Doctrine. It is even more in protest of how our government treated students who had the right to protest the war. “Ohio” is a powerful song that really addresses all of the driving questions. By students being killed by their own government this shows how individuals and society was impacted by the Viet Nam war. It shows the huge cost of he war when not only soldiers got killed in Viet Nam, but people got killed in the United States, just for opposing the war. This song leaves me with the feeling of the destruction of society and how war was not beneficial and the message that killing protesters for a war is wrong.
